Our Approach

approach

Unique person. Unique Pilates.

Our Pilates programming and instruction is as individualized as each of our clients and students. At PNWP, you won’t just learn a Pilates routine. You’ll learn how to practice Pilates in a dynamic and informative way that is tailored to you.

How do we do it? We listen to you. We support your learning style and guide you toward your goals in a personal way. Whether you’re a kinesthetic, visual or auditory learner, we find the best ways to teach you. We adapt. If something isn’t working, we change our approach—we choose other modifications, props or equipment to achieve success.

Science-minded Solutions

We utilize exercise science to re-educate your neuromotor system, so you can experience progress and develop changes that will stay with you all the time—not just during Pilates. We do this by teaching you how to breathe with ease, control your pelvis and spine, center your shoulders and balance your neck and head alignment in an efficient way. Next, we incorporate props and equipment to accommodate joint and muscular limitations, heighten proprioception (the ability to sense your body in space) and target muscles that stabilize and strengthen joints. Then, we continue to stimulate your neuromotor system by integrating exercise modifications and variations to keep your body adaptable and attuned to new challenges.

Practical Optimism

optimism

When you’ve been in pain, feel deconditioned or have reached a plateau, it’s easy to feel disconnected from your body. That can lead to frustration and a sense of hopelessness. At PNWP, we give you the tools to take realistic, persistent, positive action through exercise. Our hands-on approach and educated eyes provide you with feedback, so you’ll begin to recognize when you’ve corrected a movement pattern or not, when it’s time to push yourself and when to slow down, and how to focus on the right cues to create the best results.

Deliberate Practice

We know that little things make a big difference. The words we choose to explain movement, the care we take to guide the body, and the way we demonstrate an exercise matter. At PNWP, you’ll learn how to explore, analyze and correct mistakes, so you can develop better movement strategies—not just repeatedly practice poor habits. You’ll gain more body awareness and fine-tuned control, so you can participate in excellent, easeful, fluid and meaningful PIlates exercise.
